the Nationalization of cotton trade in 1970 the Cotton Public Corporation (CPC)
was established to undertake marketing of all cotton produced in
Sudan .In 1986 CPC was refounded to form The Sudan Cotton
Company Ltd (SCCL).In 1993 SCCL moved from the control of the
public sector to the private sector in the context of an overall
economic reorientation towards market economy
.
The major shareholders in the new formulation are
:
* Gezira farmers.
* Rahad
farmers.
* New
Halfa farmers.
*
Farmers' Commercial Bank.
*
National Pension Fund.
The effect of this change on production is that it enables
the farmers to decide according to market situations the area and
varieties which will be allocated to various crops including cotton
. Although specialized government committees give technical advice
regarding areas and varieties but such advice is not binding . As
far as marketing is concerned the change has put the farmer in
direct touch with world market in being both the producer and the
seller of cotton . He is now better informed with problems involved
in marketing. This knowledge will definitely lead the farmer
to improve his quality to the expectation of world
market.
